PACKAGING:
Looks GREAT, but a huge pain to open. I think it took me about an hour to get it all out safely and clip off all the little plastic ties on the outfit items. I had to use scissors, an Exacto knife, and fingernail clippers. A small child would definitely lose patience and end up damaging the toy and clothes in the process.
DOLL:
This dude is SUPER posable (see attached photo of him undressed to display the multiple working joints). One of the wrist joints is a little stiff, but that's the only problem I've noticed so far. He has large, inset eyes and real lashes. I was a little hesitant about the huge eyes, large head, and lashes looking weird before purchase, but in person he looks gorgeous. I've seen other RH reviews cautioning about the kneecaps sometimes being the wrong colour, but his are fine. He only has one of the black marks others have mentioned, so I guess I got lucky, but it IS on his face. It's very small, though, and barely noticeable (see photo with arrow). He feels very sturdy, and the joints don't seem loose or likely to break with use.
HAIR:
The hair comes with a bit of product in it, but not much compared to what I've seen of the female dolls in this line. I was hesitant to wash it out, as the sides appeared to be done with flocking, but after some Googling, I decided to risk it. Turns out there was no problem at all, at least with a gentle wash with warm water and a little dish soap. I patted it with a towel, then let it air dry, and the sides stayed intact. Without the product, the hair is thick, shiny, and soft. It shed a little at first, but only at first. It's also hard to mess up, and easy to brush back if it does get out of place. A kid would have to try pretty hard to tangle or frizz it. The sides also appear to have a slight ombre look (see photo). The plastic ties holding his head to the packaging also left a couple of small holes (see photo), but they're not super noticable. Tip: use nail clippers to cut the ties close to the head without doing damage to the hair.
CLOTHING:
River comes with two outfits, with many interchangeable items. I can't talk about everything, because there's simply too much to gush over! So I'll just cover the big points and any negatives.
Every single outfit item is made out of different materials, which feels like a bit of a miracle when compared to say, Barbie. The letter jacket alone has at least 3 unique fabrics. The embroidery on the sleeveless hoodie and letter jacket is REAL, not stamped on! The "pockets" on the letter jacket are suggested with fabric, but not actually there. The pockets on the shorts and the front pockets of the jeans are three-dimensional but not functional (it's a bit hard to explain, so I took a photo of the shorts with a pencil in the pocket to illustrate). The back pockets on the jeans, however, are completely functional. The "hood" on the hoodie isn't a full hood (see photo), which I admit I find a bit annoying. The windbreaker's hood is real, but won't actually fit over his head.
The shirt tied around his waist in his primary outfit is sewn together, and has velcro in the back like a skirt. I was hoping it would be usable as an actual shirt, so I took out the seams holding the sleeves together in the front, but it isn't; the sleeves are too long, and the armholes are a little too small. It's hard to re-tie, too, so I definitely don't recommend taking out the seams. One cool thing about it, though, is even though it clearly was never intended to be worn as a shirt, they still took the time to give it a fair bit of detail, including "buttons" and cuffed sleeves (see photo)!
There are TONS of tiny details, far too many to mention, but one of my personal favourites is that his turquoise "Dare to Dream" shoes have clear soles, which looks awesome (see photo). Speaking of his shoes, there are dedicated left and right ones! They have the letters L and R on the bottom, so it's easy to tell which is which. He also has socks that go with his secondary black sneakers, which actually fit super well. He can't wear his turquoise shoes with the socks, though, they're just a little too tight and don't fit quite right.
I didn't get any photos of this, but when he arrived, there were a LOT of loose threads on the inside of almost all River's clothing. I plan to change his outfits pretty frequently, so I took the time to cut them all off. A young child might accidentally snag those loose inner threads on his limbs when hastily dressing him and end up ripping the clothes, so parents might want to trim them, too.
The most irritating thing is definitely the hat. As another reviewer mentioned, the hat has a peg in it, which you are supposed to insert into a hole in the doll's head (see photos)! It makes it hard to get the hat on, and limits the ways it can be worn. The worst bit is that it's completely unnecessary; the hat fits snugly without it. I ended up carefully cutting the peg off with an Exacto knife after taking the photos, which is tricky but doable. At least the hole is well hidden by that thick hair.
ACCESSORIES:
River comes with a doll comb, a stand, and two hangers for the clothing he's not currently wearing. The hangers are functional, including the clips on the pants hanger, which is really cool. (I ended up buying Avery's Fashion Studio shortly after this, just to have a place to hang up River's clothes.) The stand and comb are both sturdy and visually appealing, and the stand is easy to assemble and use. The doll will also stand on his own when wearing shoes.
SUMMARY:
This doll has flaws, but with the sheer quality and amount of items you get for the price, it feels almost nitpicky to mention them. The soft, shiny hair, inset eyes + lashes, posable joints, and high-quality clothes make him ridiculously photogenic; I can't stop taking pictures of him! He looks like a collector's item, but seems like he'd stand up to a lot of play, too. The interchangeable outfit items and movable joints would also be a lot of fun for a kid to play with. I definitely plan to buy more from this line.

This specific doll is vey nice. Looks so gorgeous and will be in my collection. All items were intact in the box (doll and accessories).
However I had to take one star off, because of the cracked box and that is all a part of what I pay for.
With that being said, I have decided to purchase future RH dolls directly from the RH website to avoid the hassle of the frequent replacement of these specific items.
I must say Amazon is absolutely awesome in replacing any damaged items overnight, and I love that about them.
However the disappointment of getting a damaged item, and the frustration of having to return it, to get an item that's better but still has some flaw, only to settle is not what I want to keep doing. Other than that, I love the replacement.
